traditional tunes from near and far...
OUR REPERTOIRE...
The orchestra plays traditional tunes from England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Scandinavia and North America.
Music is arranged specifically for the orchestra to include a tune line, counter melody, additional harmony lines, viola (alto clef) and bass clef for cello and bass, with chord notation also included. We have had Bb and Eb instruments in the past. When we get brave, we ditch the dots and play some tunes by ear.
Our music is mostly dance music: jigs, reels, schottisches, hornpipes, marches, waltzes, polkas, strathspeys etc - music that people have moved around to in countless village halls and houses over the centuries. Some of our repertoire is very old, and some is written by contemporary composers in the traditional style.
